A couple of years ago, Lake Vesijärvi froze over in the first days of the year. This winter it froze in early December. This photo was awarded a prize in the Kuusamo Nature Photo competition last autumn.
Pari vuotta sitten Vesijärvi jäätyi vasta vuoden ensimmäisinä päivinä. Tänä talvena se jäätyi joulukuun alussa. Tämä kuva tuli palkituksi Kuusamo Nature Photo -kilpailussa viime syksynä.
Lake Vesijärvi in Lahti froze over at the beginning of December this year. There are usually a few days to photograph possible ice patterns during the freeze-up. Then there is usually a snowfall that covers the patterns. Every year it is a bit of a mystery what kind of patterns will emerge. I took this picture two years ago on the first of January. It was a finalist for the Finnish Nature Photo of the Year in 2022, but didn`t win a prize.
Vesijärven Enonselkä Lahdessa jäätyi tänä vuonna joulukuun alussa. Jäätymisen aikaan on yleensä muutama päivä aikaa kuvata mahdollisia jääkuvioita. Sitten yleensä tulee lumisade, joka peittää kuviot. Joka vuosi on pieni arvoitus, minkälaisia kuvioita syntyy. Tämän kuvan otin pari vuotta sitten ensimmäinen päivä tammikuuta. Kuva pääsi Vuoden luontokuva -finaaliin vuonna 2022, mutta ei tullut palkituksi.

Two years ago I spent whole November in Spain. Every morning I watched local birds doing their daily routines. This black redstart started the day visiting always the same spots. Three Monk Parakeets flew over exactly the same time every morning. Spotted starlings were singing in the same roof and Sardinian Warbler woke up exactly the same time. Miss these moments.
